Our next task was to tackle 12 pages of descriptions that were given to us by Emily Harris. It was all from a packet titled "Children's Services Program Description and Directory." We were asked to take the packet and summarize it into a word count appropriate for a brochure. As we read over the information and revised it as a group, we found that the majority of the 12 pages were descriptions of very specific programs within the Organization. We had discussed with Valley employees the possibility of creating individual brochure inserts for each service offered and explained in this packet. This seemed like the best solution to the problem. We wanted to avoid unnecessary elimination of a program that we might have assumed was unimportant.
We divided the revision work load evenly among our group members and later joined the insert revisions to the revisions we made to the general service paragraphs. Our work is found above.
As we worked on this task, we again learned to value brevity and the ability to write concisely. We strove to maintain the important points that were outlined in the original packet while making it more conversational and approachable for all individuals.
